What would you do if someone talked bad about your family?

So I have this enemy, and last argument we had, I told her to go ahead and hit me since she acted tough but she didnt. Today, after gym in the gym lockers, I was talking to my friend just hanging waiting for the bell to ring, and all a sudden she goes up to me and starts going off on me, she then talks about my mom, MY MOM. She said your mom must be retarded then started mocking my language, so I grabbed her hair and slammed her to the gym lockers, then I grabbed my water bottle, poured the water all over her. I'm suspended for two days but I feel like I had to physically fight her, she was screaming so I couldn't scream back, but what would you do if someone talked bad about yoru family? Whether it be your brother, sister, mom, grandma, dad, grandpa, etc..
