Are vets cheaper in the u.s than canada?

i live in canada and i am wondering about the difference in the cost of vets between the two countries ... a typical exam rate here would be $30 for budget to $55 dollars for top of the line ... my dog just had surgery, two lumpectomies and her teeth done for $1165 ... she also got poked in the eye with a stick when she was a bit younger and it cost $225 to walk through the door of the doggie ophthalmologist and about $700 dollars to have her eye fixed ... she tore her dew claw and that was a $125 vet visit ... any comments ?
